1982Is Man the fruit of organized creation or the product of blind evolution ? (See "The Fight").
This crucial question, which would scarcely have found a place in the context of a first and second abode (natural shelter and house), fully regained its meaning in the new universe that was gradually being constructed on YATRIDES ' easel.
Stray beings were coming to inhabit this third abode, wondering to themselves, questioning with inconceivable insistence, or else were immobile, deep in thought. Their enigmatic stance suggests neither holy bliss nor sensual languor.
A painting by YATRIDES, without one always knowing why, exerts a strange power of fascination. One may react, quite justifiably, by a movement of recoil, a desire to reject it. But it is impossible to remain indifferent.
If one, in turn, agrees to explore this third abode, one will first wish to identify with the beings who inhabit it, pose questions about their behaviour and one will, quite naturally, ask the painter.
It is now the painter's turn, that of YATRIDES, to experience a feeling of embarrassment, to half-make a movement of recoil, for at this stage, we are entering the domain of the ineffable, or rather that of the "implicit".
